WIC (or Women, Infants, and Children) is here to help you keep your family fed right from the start with supplemental foods, healthcare referrals, and nutrition education for eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and children from birth up to age 5.
The food vouchers provided to WIC recipients help to round out a family’s grocery budget and ensure children are well-nourished and get a healthy start.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control, or DHEC, offers nutritional counseling for those enrolled in the program, helping families to feel empowered to make the right dietary choices long after they no longer need WIC’s help.
Food vouchers provided as part of the WIC program can be used at local grocery stores to purchase essentials, including:
- Breakfast Cereal
- Infant Cereal
- Infant Food: Fruits & Vegetables
- Infant Food: Meat
- Infant Formula
- Exempt Infant Formula
- Milk (Including Certain Non-Dairy Milk Varieties)
- Cheese
- Tofu
- Legumes (Black Beans, etc)
- Peanut Butter
- Fresh and Preserved Fruits & Vegetables
